After a gang allegedly killed a 36-year-old man and critically injured a 30-year-old expecting woman, panic erupted in Kiumbu village, Kiarukungu location in Kirinyaga County.

Residents who protested a rise in violence in the neighborhood requested action from the government, blaming a group of school dropouts who have turned to crime.

According to Kiarukungu Local Chief Henry Kariuki, who confirmed the happenings, Josphat Murimi, 36, was assassinated by unidentified assailants while unwinding at a nearby church.

Murimi’s family, led by his uncle Josphat Kiriga, claimed to have learned of his passing while en route to church.

Murimi was laying in a pool of blood, and I was horrified to see it. “We want to know who killed our kid and receive justice,” Kiriga added.

At a nearby shopping center, Mercy Auma, the other victim, was attacked and stabbed in the stomach.

Police have started looking into the two occurrences, and officers will be sent to the Kiumbu shopping center to deal with the culprits mercilessly, according to Mwea-East Police Commander Daniel Kitavi.
