Two robbery suspects “disappear” from Siaya police cells.

Two robbery suspects who had been held in custody for three weeks had unexplainably vanished from the holding cells at the K’ogelo police station in Siaya County.

Richard Oliaro Odongo and Boniface Onyango Otieno, the remandees, were charged at the Siaya Principal Magistrate’s Court on October 11, 2022, and held at the police station.

When the court issued a production order for the two accused on November 1, 2022, police only then realized the pair was missing.

Corporal Oscar Okong’o, who was in charge of the court orderlies, has reportedly been detained in connection with the incident, according to a police report.

Benedict Mwangangi, the commander of the Alego Usonga Sub-County Police, acknowledged the occurrence and said that efforts to find the culprits are ongoing at the same time as inquiries into how the criminals escaped.
