It emerges that Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition had fronted the Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka to fly the Azimio La Umoja flag in race for the National Assembly Speaker. However, details say that Kalonzo had since picked application papers for the Speaker of Senate. This means that Kalonzo could be seeking to bid for both Speaker positions.
A tough battle is therefore likely to be witnessed at the Senate Assembly given that several other leaders from both Azimio La Umoja and Kenya Kwanza Alliance have expressed interest in the seat.
In William Ruto’s KKA, former Mombasa County Senator Hassan Omar who lost bid for Mombasa gubernatorial seat, ex-nominated Member of Parliament Isaac Mwaura and former Kilifi County governor Amason Kingi have picked nomination forms for the Senate speaker post.
However, former Kilifi governor Amason Kingi had been reported to be the Kenya Kwanza Alliance ideal candidate for the senate speaker seat by virtue of the coalition agreement his PAA party signed with William Ruto.
Unfortunately in the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition, it has emerged that the entry of the former vice president Kalonzo Musyoka into the Senate Speaker’s race has complicated things for the coalition. Details say that the position of Senate Speaker in Azimio had been reserved for Kenneth Marende who is a former National Assembly speaker.
Kenneth Marende was eyeing Vihiga County governor seat but opted out for the race when Raila Odinga named him as the coalition’s candidate for the Senate Assembly Speaker’s position weeks before the General Elections. But Marende might get a tough competition in the race for the post following Kalonzo’s interests for the same position.
