The National Assembly has temporarily halted the process of currently nominated Principal Secretaries being thoroughly vetted.
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and other petitioners challenged the list on the grounds that it lacked regional and tribal balance, and the High Court subsequently made directions as a result.
The two-thirds gender rule clause is absent from the list, according to the petition, and adolescents and those with impairments were never taken into account.
Moses Wetangula, the speaker of the National Assembly, said in a statement on Wednesday that the House must uphold and respect the law and will therefore delay the vetting procedure “until further notice.”
It is also disallowed for Departmental Committees, which started the screening process on Monday, to take any actions relating to reporting to the House.
Wetangula added that the next steps in the case will depend on the court’s directives.
The UDA coalition has pledged that it will support the High Court’s decision and, if necessary, will ask President William Ruto to start over.
