After their motorcycle crashed with a pick-up transporting miraa near Naka River along the Meru-Nairobi Highway in Tharaka Nithi County, a boda boda rider and his passenger died early on Monday morning.

The boda boda, according to Tharaka Nithi County Emergency and Rescue Team Manager Alex Mugambi, was traveling in the direction of Chuka town.

According to him, the rider passed away immediately, and the passenger’s death was confirmed when they arrived at Chuka County Referral Hospital.

After the 2 a.m. accident, he claimed the pick-driver up’s showed up at a local police station.

Motorcycle accidents are fairly common in the area, according to Mr. Mugambi, who urged riders and other drivers to drive carefully.

The Probox cars transporting muguka, he claimed, are creating mayhem on the highway even though incidents involving miraa vehicles are not particularly prevalent. He asked motorists to obey traffic laws to lessen fatalities on the road.

Boda boda driver Mr. James Mutegi accused motorists of showing disrespect to motorbike riders on the road.
