A miraa vendor’s decomposing body was discovered on Friday night in a rented room at the Kubumbu estate in Chuka Town, Tharaka-Nithi County.
The landlord smelled something awful emanating from the room and soon after found the body of Janet Mwende Njeru, 31.
After breaking a window and peeking in, the landlord and Mr. Benson Ndeke, the estate manager, discovered the dead body on the bed and bloodstains on the floor.
Mr. Ndeke reported to the Chuka Police Station. Before transporting the body to the mortuary at Chuka County Referral Hospital for a post-mortem, police officers busted down the door and investigated the situation.
According to Mr. Miriti Mbaka, the interim chief of Chuka Township, the deceased was a mother of two.
Jenesia Karimi, the mother of the woman, said that her daughter had never been ill before. She requested the police to carry out in-depth investigations to determine the death’s cause.
The other residents told the press that Mwende was last seen on Wednesday, and they speculated that she might have passed away that day.
