Investigations have been opened by Bondo, Siaya County, police into the death of a 70-year-old man who was allegedly killed by his neighbor on Thursday night in Nyang’oma village in Central Sakwa because of a land dispute.
The man, later named as John Okelo, was reportedly murdered by his 80-year-old neighbor Jared Ochieng, whose body was discovered nearby on a pathway.
The incident was reported by the Assistant Chief of Nyang’oma Sub-location Michael Osare, who summoned the police to the area, according to Bondo Sub-County Police Commander Ibrahim Kosi.
The police chief said that despite the fact that Mr. Okelo’s body had no obvious visual injuries, the cops had been able to prove that they had battled over the protracted land dispute.
While confirming the tragic situation, Mr. Kosi stated that the elderly man’s body was transported to the mortuary of the Bondo sub-county hospital to await postmortem as the inquiry into the incident got underway.
The sub-county police chief used the occasion to warn the populace against killing one another over land disputes and advised them to seek the help of the government administration to resolve their differences.
He claimed that there are numerous ways to resolve land conflicts and that no one should perish as a result of a land dispute.
