Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua criticized Raila Odinga on Monday for saying that President William Ruto is a “puppet of other countries.”
Gachagua stated that Raila lacked the moral authority to contest the actions of the Kenya Kwanza government during the inauguration of the Drought Response Plan by the Government of Kenya and the United Nations in Garissa County.
“We do not require opposition counsel. They lack the moral standing to give us advice. The nation had a Sh10 trillion debt when they counseled the former President, according to DP Gachagua.
He said, “We shall go to the people, listen to them, and heed their counsel.
In a press statement, Raila accused Ruto of being a puppet and appeasing the west by permitting the entry of GMO maize. The Deputy President was responding to that allegation.
“He is acting as a puppet, working against our interests as a country on behalf of foreign countries and their multinational corporations. He works to support international biotechnology organizations “Sunday, Raila remarked.
Raila’s assertion that the government is importing maize without engaging the appropriate stakeholders was also rejected by Gachagua. He asserted that Kenya Kwanza is eager to collaborate with stakeholders and host consultation sessions.
Gachagua stated that Kenya needs Ksh.17 billion between now and January 2023 to lessen the effects of the current drought.
According to him, the money would be used to assist initiatives to improve food security and livelihoods as well as to sink new water pans and renovate existing ones around the nation.
According to DP Gachagua, “A total of Ksh17.9 billion is necessary for the immediate scale-up of drought response to cover the period up to January 2023.”
Gachagua added that as a long-term strategy to combat the problem, the government will begin allocating funds to establish a new drought kitty to assist in responding to persistent droughts.
