In order to attend the COP27 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt in 2022, Raila Odinga has departed the nation.
In a statement released on Monday, the African Union (AU) announced that Mr. Odinga had been invited to the summit to speak to the delegation as the AU’s High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa.
He will be required to provide a presentation on how climate change will affect the growth of the continent of Africa’s infrastructure.
Part of the statement explained “why it is necessary to boost adaptation and resilience, mitigate emissions, facilitate a just transition, and increase funding and collaboration for key climate solutions.”
On November 6, the conference’s official start date, more than 130 Heads of State are anticipated to attend.
At the summit, President William Ruto will serve as both the head of the Kenyan delegation and the African Heads of State.
Over 40,000 delegates will hear from him during his two speeches, one for Kenya and the other for Africa.
The conference’s main goal will be to reach an agreement on the problem of paying developing countries for growing harm caused by global warming, putting the contentious subject on the table for the first time since the beginning of climate talks decades ago.
