Pwani Secondary School Student Drowns In River Nzoia

A family is in mourning after their son drowned in the River Nzoia just after reporting to school.

According to reports, Steven Ongadi Choko, a Form 2 student at Pwani Secondary School, had left the building with other pupils to go get water when he drowned.

Kennedy Barasa, the area chief in Kabuyefwe, and Joseph Achumi, the assistant commissioner, both confirmed the occurrence.

“Last night, students left the premises to fetch water. Sadly, one of them drowned, according to Tongarem Member of Parliament John Chikati, who also went to the scene on Sunday.

“The river is only about three kilometers from the school. Given that these kids are still young, I wonder why a teacher wasn’t sent to go with them to the river, Chikati continued.

Divers who had been searching the river’s bottom since Saturday night eventually found the body on Sunday afternoon.

The mortuary at Lugulu Hospital has received the body.
