NYALI: Three Robbery Suspects Arrested

Police detained three robbery suspects on Tuesday night after they robbed a man in Nyali, Mombasa.

The victim was attacked along Nyali beach by Ali Sharrif Omar, 21, Zulfi Zulfikar, 20, and Ali Baribi Kiyema, 18, according to a complaint from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). They beat him up and stole his two cell phones.

According to DCI’s account of the 6:45 p.m. event, the trio then got on their getaway motorcycle, but their attempts to escape were unsuccessful when locals and law enforcement responded to the victim’s yells.

The victim issued a piercing scream for aid as the group accelerated their getaway motorcycle, but this drew the notice of police on patrol and bodaboda business owners, who gave chase, according to DCI’s Wednesday report.

The miscreants “wobbled to a dead end at the Mamba Village roundabout, surrendering to the police who were a surer bet for a second lease of life, panicking like cornered rats and fearful for the impending severe repression by the people”

The three were led to Nyali Police Station, where they will be detained while a charge against them is brought.

The motorcycle used in the getaway, a Boxer KMFX 362B, has also been stopped on the same property.

The suspects claimed they had tossed the stolen smartphones into a thicket during the pursuit, therefore they were not found with the stolen smartphones.
