A 30-year-old man is being sought by Nairobi police on suspicion of killing his girlfriend in the Onyonka estate in Lang’ata.
According to reports, Naneu Muthoni, 30, visited the suspect on Friday of last week only a few meters from her house. She vanished, only for her severely injured body to be found on Monday of this week covered in a bed sheet in the suspect’s home.
The deceased, according to her mother, was happy as she left her parents’ home in the Lang’ata neighborhood of Southlands estate to go see her partner at the nearby Onyonka estate.
Even though her parents knew where she was that weekend, they were unaware of the danger that lay ahead. It was only when her phone went unanswered that her parents started to worry.
Her mother Grace Muturi stated, “I tried contacting her phone but no one picked and the next time her phone was off this time.
The mother went looking for daughter at her boyfriend’s residence on Monday this week after failed attempts to contact her for more than 48 hours.
“I arrived by car and encountered the officers.
I was terrified of what might have happened virtually with certainty,” she continued.
According to police accounts, she had significant scratches on her forehead and blood dripping from her nostrils. Blood was splashed on the wall and the floor, and there were obvious evidence of a struggle.
Thomas Mbugua Muthee, the girlfriend’s boyfriend, is being investigated as the prime suspect in the slaying. He was last saw on this month’s 12th.
The two had reportedly been dating for a year, according to the family, who has not yet recovered from the horrific death of their last-born daughter.
After learning of the suspect’s intermittent assaults, the parents were uneasy about the situation.
“The relationship has not been very stable. I tried to discourage her, but I don’t understand why she kept returning,” the mother continues.
According to Monica Kimani, commander of the Lang’ata Sub-county Police, they are actively pursuing the culprit and are confident they will catch up with him shortly.
On Wednesday of this week, Muthoni’s body is anticipated to undergo a postmortem examination.
