NAIROBI: A Form One Student Commits Suicide In School Due to Parental Divorce

A 15-year-old girl committed suicide as a result of a disagreement between her parents that caused their separation.

At the Ngara Girls High School in Nairobi, Laureen Ekale committed suicide by jumping from the first floor of their dorm.

Her classmates claimed that at at 6 o’clock in the evening, Laureen went to the dormitory balcony and slipped off, landing on her head.

Teachers were notified by the alarmed kids, who also raised the alarm. They arrived on the scene to find the girl writhing in agony. After being taken to the hospital, she was treated there but later declared dead.

According to preliminary investigations, the Form One student left behind a two-page statement outlining her motivations for killing herself.

It was learned that the student had been distressed as a result of her parents’ divorce.

The girl claimed in the note that the divorce had a detrimental effect on her life.

In this nation, suicide cases have increased.

In 2020, 174 suicide cases were reported, down from 196 in 2019, 302 in 2018, 421 in 2017, and 302 in 2016.
