Mwea: Concerns Raised After Fire Guts A School Dormitory

Property of an unknown value was destroyed on Friday when fire gutted a dormitory at Holy Family Primary School in Ngurubani Mwea, Kirinyaga County.

No one was injured.

According to the school management, the dormitory that was burnt houses more than 200 pupils.

Beds, mattress, uniform, textbooks and other items were destroyed.

Residents and the area MCA faulted the county government for failing to send firefighters in time to put out the fire. `

“We were told the firefighting vehicle had mechanical problems,” Muchina said.

Parents raised concerns about the lack of adequate response to the fire.

Mwea  East sub-county police commander Daniel Kitavi said the cause of the fire is still unknown.
