
In Murang’a County, a man who raped a 25-year-old intellectually challenged, half deaf, and partially dumb lady was given a 20-year prison term.
Samuel Kamau, according to the prosecution, preyed upon the woman after her parents left for a funeral.
The public prosecutor stated, “The accused raped her in a nearby thicket where he was apprehended by the woman’s brother.”
In another region of Mombasa, a guy who stole and vandalized Standard Gauge Railway components was sentenced to two years in prison.
Ali Badi Chumvi, also known as Swaleh Hussein, admitted to stealing a metal pole from the SGR that was valued Ksh. 30,000.
When Chumvi appeared before Justice Mutuku, he also admitted to having served an earlier 8-month sentence for stealing and vandalizing SGR line.
According to Justice Mutuku, the man’s behavior put the SGR’s safety at danger and he wasn’t sorry for it.
Boniface Ngonda, Hussein’s co-accused, entered a not guilty plea and was freed on a Ksh.200,000 bond with one surety or a Ksh.100,000 cash bail. On November 29, the case will be brought up for pre-trial.
