Mudavadi and Atwoli Discuss Western Kenyan Unity

Francis Atwoli, president of the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU), and Musalia Mudavadi, prime cabinet secretary (CS) nominee, met in person on Tuesday in Nairobi.

Following the meeting, Mudavadi said on Twitter that they discussed uniting the Western region in the wake of the General Election on August 9th.

“Francis Atwoli, the COTU Secretary-General, visited me this afternoon. On issues of development and unification in the Western Region, “Mudavadi tweeted the statement along with a photo of the two shaking hands.

In the days preceding the elections on August 9, Mudavadi and Atwoli supported different candidates: the ANC party head supported President William Ruto, while the COTU frontman backed Azimio la Umoja One Kenya leader Raila Odinga.

The two publicly traded insults on the campaign trail due to their divergent viewpoints as the competition for votes in Western Kenya grew.

However, Mudavadi now claims that he and Atwoli have decided to collaborate for the benefit of citizens of Western Kenya.

After being vetted, Mudavadi’s nomination for Prime CS was accepted by the Committee on Appointments of the National Assembly. “We decided we had no choice as leaders than to consolidate,” he said.
