A 30-year-old Suna West, Migori County woman has been detained in connection with the death of her 15-year-old son, who reportedly passed away from injuries his mother inflicted on him the night of New Year’s Day.
After neighbors found her son’s lifeless body on Tuesday evening, the mom, whose name has been suppressed, was detained by police.
The suspect, a Migori-based businesswoman, allegedly left her home on Tuesday morning under the impression that her son, a form two student at Abwao Secondary School, was resting up after the beating he sustained the night before, according to Migori County Police Commander Mark Wanjala.
Wanjala stated that the girl was clearly shocked to learn of the boy’s passing and that the police had not yet determined the cause of the boy’s demise.
Wanjala asserts that although the boy’s cause of death has not yet been determined, police believe that he died as a result of the aforementioned injuries because his body showed obvious evidence of abrasions. She was obviously shocked to learn of his death, Wanjala said.
The deceased’s body has been sent to Migori Level IV Hospital for storage pending autopsy as investigations into the incident continue, and the woman is currently being held at Oruba Police Station and will be arraigned in court.
