An Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance rally in Kisii County was on Thursday disrupted after a gas canister was allegedly discharged at Gusii stadium just moments before Raila Odinga’s running mate, Martha Karua, could take to the podium.
Karua and other Azimio politicians who were in attendance were swiftly escorted out of the grounds to safety following the incident.
The details of what exactly transpired were not immediately available but in a video seen by Citizen Digital, residents who had gathered at the grounds can be seen scampering for safety as smoke bellows from the podium.
The National Police Service (NPS) has however commenced investigations into the incident.
According to NPS spokesperson Bruno Shioso, any persons found to have been responsible for the fiasco will be charged accordingly.
