Long holiday as schools close for two months

Between Wednesday, November 23, and Friday, December 25, primary and secondary schools in Kenya will be closed for a two-month holiday.

The Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) national exams will start this week as a result of this week’s school closures.

The KPSEA exams for the initial group of Grade Six candidates will start on November 28 and end on November 30. Class eight pupils will take the tests concurrently with the KCPE.

Candidates started taking the practical KCSE exams in secondary schools on November 21, and the written exams will continue until December 2 and December 23.

The grading period for the KCSE exam will therefore start on January 2 and last until January 20, 2022.

The school calendar that was thrown off by the COVID-19 pandemic will get back to normal in January 2023.

The first term of classes begins on January 23 and ends on April 21 with a two-week break.

Term two will last 13 weeks, from May 8 to August 11, just like term one did. Then there will be a two-week pause.

When it happens, the third term will start on August 28 and expire on November 3.
