A 32-year-old man in Lamu County has been stabbed to death by a friend over a Ksh.40 debt.

The incident took place on Sunday in the Kashmiri area of Amu island.

Police said they had arrested the suspect as they continued investigations to ascertain the circumstances of the occurrence.

This comes just two weeks after another man, 27, was allegedly stabbed to death by a friend in a fight over alcohol in Marmament, Laikipia County.

According to reports, the suspect, identified as James Kiugu, 70, stabbed John Kiptoo several times with a kitchen knife on Sunday, August 28.

The two were in the company of other people at a beer den when they got into a fight, and later, the elderly man went for the knife and stabbed the young man several times, according to reports.

He was rescued by security officers who arrived just as he was about to be lynched.

Residents who told the police that the two were also close friends said it was unclear why their friendship ended so tragically.
