741 cartons of a variety of hard liquor were found by police in Katulani, Kitui County.
This, according to area deputy county commissioner Shufaa Omar, is the result of a tip from the general public.
Omar stated, “We have learned from the villagers that one of the Wikililye homes has a consignment of illegal alcohol stockpiled inside.”
The more than 700 boxes were seized thanks to the combined efforts of police personnel from Wikililye police post and Katulani police post.
Police continued, “The containers included at least 20 bottles of booze packaged in 250ml bottles.
After the operation, police officers under the direction of Kitui police chief Leah Kithei gathered the samples for analysis.
Omar stated that “a team composed of Kenya Revenue Authority officers arrived at the spot and gathered samples for tests.”
Residents have been warned not to engage in illegal trade, and police have issued a warning that those who do so will be prosecuted.
