A fraction of Kisumu people flocked to the streets on Sunday to call for peace ahead of the Azimio la Umoja coalition’s planned rallies on Monday.
Sen. Tom Ojienda of Kisumu, who was leading the pro-peace demonstrators, took to the streets to denounce the anti-government demonstrations.

I say No to violence and “Lovers of Dialogue” were inscribed on posters and banners carried by protesters as they gathered at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in the middle of the morning.

The pro-Azimio faction attacked the protesters just as they started to gain momentum for their cause.

Armed teenagers in their dozens came out of the Kisumu bus park and chased the gathering away from the Central Business District (CBD).

At the Kisumu bus park, anti-riot police have been stationed as businesses scramble to close as a result of the escalating tension.
