Kirinyaga County police are investigating the death of two children in Kiamai village, Mutira ward, Kirinyaga County, when a home caught fire.
According to Kirinyaga county disaster management manager Shujaa John Kiama, officers from Kerugoya police station reported the event about 10:30 p.m.

After extinguishing the fire, police officers discovered two youngsters, a boy approximately five years old and a girl about three years old, who had been charred beyond recognition.

According to authorities, the father of the two children had departed to meet his father about some arrangements when his brother notified him about the fire.

“Even our neighbor observed flames pouring from our timber-framed house, and I had to ask for a blanket in vain to attempt to save my children,” the father of two remembered.

According to the children’s grandmother, Faith Wangech, the two youngsters were raised by their father when their mother relocated to the Middle East following her divorce from her husband.

The bodies of the two toddlers were sent to Kerugoya hospital for a postmortem examination.
