On Monday morning, a 28-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself at his home in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, for undetermined reasons.
Locals said that children playing in the same compound as the deceased’s home who had come to say hello to him discovered his body hanging from the rafters of his home.
The kids then screamed out in terror, catching the attention of nearby people who were puzzled as to why the young guy had killed himself given that he was supposedly in great spirits during the holiday season.
According to Mwea West Sub-County Police Commander Wilson Koskei, the deceased’s body has subsequently been sent to Kibugi Funeral Home in anticipation of the results of the post-mortem.
The high rate of male suicides in the area has been condemned in recent months by Kirinyaga locals.
For instance, on December 31, locals of Thiba were baffled when the body of a 59-year-old man was discovered hanging from a tree close to a nearby rice farm.
Friends and family claim that although the dead did not expressly state that he would kill himself, he did often tell them that he would not live to see the new year.
“He spent a lot of time around the tree we found his body dangling from during his final days, so I assumed it was a prank. I had no idea that he would commit suicide there later. I believe he was searching for a suitable location to end his life “the brother of the deceased, Samuel Migwi Kariuki, stated
