Following an apparent failed robbery attempt in Kiambu County’s Ruiru’s Kihunguro neighborhood, two thieves impersonating as policemen have been apprehended.
The imposters reportedly besieged a home in Elim Sheperd Apartments on Thursday at around one in the morning and introduced themselves as DCI officers stationed at Pangani Police Station, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
However, the residents of the home grew suspicious of the intruders and called for help, bringing in officers from the Ruiru Police Station.
“The quick response by the Ruiru based police caught the criminals by surprise as one of them attempted to fly from the third level of the apartment only to land on the apartment’s floor with a heavy thud gravely injuring his head,” stated the DCI in a statement.
The second suspect came forward to the police after being unable to identify an escape route. The defendant was found to be in possession of a fake firearm and a fake police identification card.
Robert Gitonga, the injured suspect’s accomplice, is presently being held at the Ruiru Police Station for further action. The injured suspect was taken to Ruiru Level IV Hospital for treatment.
