Four persons have already died as a result of the cholera outbreak in Kiambu County after two more passed away while obtaining medical care at Ruiru Level 4 hospital.
According to early accounts, at least 15 people were hospitalized after consuming tainted water over the Christmas holiday.
The majority of those admitted to the hospital were from the Gatong’ora and Murera wards, as well as the Kiratina and Prison area, where two persons are currently believed to have died from the waterborne disease.
The facility’s medical personnel declined to speak with journalists, but families of the victims claimed that sewage-contaminated water was to blame for the outbreak.
The issue began when residents of the region drank water contaminated with sewage that entered their water taps on December 23, according to Peter Mwaura, a local of Gatong’ora.
