Kenyan Kwanza MPs To Meet President Ruto Regarding EALA Seats

The final list of five candidates for the East African Legislative Assembly is scheduled to be presented to President William Ruto on Tuesday (EALA).

As it turned out, the 15 candidates who were shortlisted for the five positions open for the ruling alliance have improved their performances and are currently engaging in vigorous lobbying.

According to reports, the president is eager to fill the openings with representatives from underrepresented regions to improve regional balance in his government.

It has been decided that the final list will be presented in State House on Tuesday, where members will be asked to approve it prior to Thursday’s parliamentary vote.

Former Kisii senatorial candidate Okeng’o Nyambane, who abandoned his goals in the most recent general election, is one of the names rumored to make it to the final five.

President William Ruto persuaded him to withdraw from the contest and support current Education CS Ezekiel Machogu, who was running for governor at the time.

Ruto promised Nyambane a senior position in the Ruto government during his campaigning in the area. Now that Nyambane has been passed over for both the CS and PS positions, he may be elected to the Arusha Parliament.

Others include Hassan Omar, a former Mombasa senator who unsuccessfully ran for governor of Mombasa. He is alleged to have chosen EALA over PS.

Fred Muteti, a former secretary general of the United Republican Party who collaborated closely with Ruto when the latter was in charge, is another candidate for the EALA position.

In exchange for his forced withdrawal from the candidacy for the Makueni parliamentary seat in the most recent election, Muteti was promised a position in the federal administration.

Falhada Iman, a former candidate for the Senate, is another name that is expected to be mentioned during the meeting on Tuesday at State House House in Nairobi.

The final lineup, which has the support of top UDA party officials, also includes Rebecca Merikeju, who ran for the Turkana woman representative position.

Tuesday will only be a formality because the list has already been decided upon. Before the vote on Thursday, we will consult with the party leadership, according to a senior UDA official.
