Police in Homa Bay County have detained seven students over involvement in an arson incident at Ober Boys Secondary School in Rachuonyo East Sub Count on Monday morning.
The students are suspected to be behind the arson which razed down a 167-dormitory capacity at dawn. One confessed to participating in the arson incident.
The fire broke out when all the students using the burnt dormitory were in class for their morning studies.
The students who were in class saw smoke emanating from the dormitory and raised alarm.
Firefighters from the County Government of Homa Bay managed to put out the fire before it could spread to other buildings.
However, property in the dormitory had been reduced to ashes.
Homa Bay County Police commander Samson Ole Kinne says the seven students who were arrested are believed to be behind the fire incident at the school.
Ole Kinne says the students were taken to Ringa Police station for interrogation where one of them (Form two student) confessed to have participated in the arson.
The students are being detained at Ringa Police Station as police intensify investigations.
No casualty was reported during the fire incident since all the students were in class.
