Investigations into the death of a class seven student who is thought to have committed suicide have been launched by police in Rachuonyo North East Sub County, Homa Bay County.
Felix Odhiambo Okech, a 12-year-old child, is said to have killed himself on Saturday night by hanging himself on a tree’s branch in a thicket near their house.
According to reports, the schoolboy from Dudi Primary School went missing until late at night when his lifeless body was discovered dangling from the top of the tree. He had reportedly left home to untie his family’s goats from the grazing area.
Michael Okech, the father of the boy, claims that Felix may have hanged himself after discovering a goat dead in the grazing pasture in an undetermined manner.
He claimed that the youngster cut a rope from the dead goat and used it to hang himself out of despair.
Justus Kucha, the commander of the Rachuonyo East Sub-County Police, who confirmed the occurrence, stated that the police have not determined the reason why the kid chose to terminate his life.
The boy’s body was taken to Rachuonyo South Sub County Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination after police commenced their investigation into the incident.
