Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has urged Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to hand over the political mantle to him ahead of the 2022 elections.

Mutua, who has since declared his 2022 presidential bid, says Kalonzo has “led well and has worked well” over the years, but the political dynamics have changed, and it’s high time the Ukambani region fronts a new leader.

“Let me tell you plainly, the Kamba community, should find someone who can be voted for by other communities and not by Kambas alone. Because if all the 2.5 million Kamba voters voted for Mutua and I garner all the Kamba votes and I don’t get votes from other communities I would not be president,” said Mutua.

He added: “You need a person who is wanted by the Kamba people and many other communities to become president.”

According to Mutua, he is currently the best placed leader from the Ukambani region who enjoys political backing from across the country.

“There is no other Kamba leader currently who can be voted by all communities in Kenya to become president, apart from Alfred Nganga Mutua.

“Kalonzo musyoka has led well and has worked well. We thank him. Asanti sana. But everything has its time,” said the Maendeleo Chap Chap Party leader.

He was speaking on Wednesday at Komarock near Tala in Matungulu Sub-county while opening a new building by Komarock Housing Society and inspecting the ongoing construction of the Komarock Bus Park.

To drive his point home, Mutua used an analogy of Kenya’s greatest marathoners; the retired champion Kipchoge Keino and the current world’s greatest Eliud Kipchoge.

Mutua equated himself to Eliud Kipchoge while likening Kalonzo to Kipchoge Keino.

“Kalonzo is like Kipchoge Keino. Mutua is the modern Eliud Kipchoge… We are not disrespecting him. It is just the reality. For the race ahead of us, he will not be able to hack it because things have changed,” said Mutua.

He added: “We are telling Kalonzo thanks. You have done well. In the same way we respect Kipchoge Keino, we have to respect him (Kalonzo). But the race being run now is not for him. It’s for Eliud Kipchoge and Alfred Mutua.”
