Eric Maigo, the acting finance director at Nairobi Hospital, was fatally stabbed over two weeks ago. Since then, more information has come to light regarding his unexplained death.

According to sources with knowledge of the investigations, the suspect, who was initially thought to be a minor, now says that she stabbed Maigo out of self-defense after being the victim of rape.

According to what she allegedly told authorities, Maigo picked her up by the roadside after she had been chased from her home because of a conflict with her guardian.

Following the filing of a miscellaneous application by corporal Patrick Boge, who stated that police needed to conduct the suspect’s mental and age assessments as required before one faces murder charges, the 16-year-old suspect was arraigned before Magistrate Zainabu Abdul at the Milimani Law Courts on Wednesday.

The application was approved by the court, allowing detectives to hold the suspect for the next 21 days while they conduct their inquiries.

Before going to trial, the suspect will be subject to both age and mental evaluations.

The DCI is also attempting to determine if she acted independently or in accordance with orders.

Tuesday night saw the arrest of the girl when a Kenyan called the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ Fichua line and provided reliable information that resulted in the arrest of the suspect.
