Elgeyo Marakwet by-election: UDA’s Kisang William wins

With 41,378 votes, Kisang William Kipkemoi of the UDA party has won the contest for Elgeyo Marakwet Senator.

Jerotich Seii of Safina received 2,660 votes, placing him second behind Tim Kipchumba of the Party for Peace and Democracy (PPD), who received 38,151 votes.

Earlier on, Kipchumba and Seii admitted defeat and gave Kisang their backing.

“I called Kisang yesterday at a few minutes before midnight and congratulated him. I assured him of my support in my capacity as my senator and Elgeyo Marakwet’s senator-elect. President Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza cabinet, as well as Kait Sait, need our help, Kisang stated.

“Congratulations to Senator-elect Tim Kipchumba for being a tough opponent, as well as to Honourable William Kisang of Elgeyo Marakwet County. Godspeed,” tweeted Seii.

Both independent candidates Mengich Andrew Kibiwott and Kemboi Kevin Kiptoo earned 503 and 382 votes, respectively. 397 votes were cast for Tanui Timothy of the New Democrats Party.

Elgeyo Marakwet’s senator, Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen, will be replaced by Kisang.
