Elijah Obebo has been selected by Kisii Governor Simba Arati to fill the role of Deputy Governor in the wake of Robert Monda’s resignation.

Speaker of the Kisii County Assembly Philip Nyanumba said on Wednesday that Arati selected Obebo to be his deputy, subject to Assembly confirmation.

Obebo has been the County’s chair of the public service board.

A week after the Senate impeached Monda due to egregious misconduct and corruption, the appointment was made. This came about following the Kisii County Assembly’s approval of his dismissal.

The former Nyaribari Chache MP was found guilty by the Senate of all charges brought against him.

Since then, Monda has filed a motion in court to revoke the impeachment, arguing that Arati’s team engaged in a witch hunt.

Despite having the backing of Kisii County Senator Richard Onyonka and National Assembly Chief Whip and South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro, Monda was still defeated.
