Dorcas Rigathi, the second lady, has revealed intentions to roll out statewide financial empowerment initiatives that, in her words, will be especially directed at boys and young men.
In her remarks on Wednesday, Mrs. Rigathi said that the empowerment projects—aimed at granting young men financial independence—will be carried out in collaboration with the Kenya Union of Savings and Credit Cooperatives (KUSCCO).
“As a government, we are certain that we will work with SACCOs to transform the economy from the ground up. The cooperative movement gave rise to the bottom-up movement, and these (SACCOs) are the solutions for Kenya’s youth, women, and vulnerable, as well as for the creation of a robust and vibrant economy “Mrs. Rigathi stated.
According to the Second Lady, working with cooperative organizations could lead to answers for concerns like access to affordable housing, food security, and other social difficulties.
George Ototo, the CEO of KUSCCO, who was also present, gave Mrs. Rigathi the assurance that the cooperative movement will support the projects that will be implemented throughout the nation.
“We pledge to support Her Excellency and her major initiatives because we share their vision. We will intentionally build divisions at the SACCO structural level to empower the boy child, stated Mr. Ototo.
We will encourage the boy-child to engage in more productive activities and help with his rehabilitation through sports and other activities, “Added he.
More than six million Kenyans are members of the cooperative movement, which encompasses all facets of the country’s economy, including finance, commerce, farming, and labor.
