The 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference is taking place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, and President William Ruto arrived there on Sunday (COP27).
In addition to leading the group from Kenya to Egypt, Dr. Ruto will represent the heads of state from the African continent at the summit, which will include more than 130 heads of state from across the world.
Over 40,000 delegates will hear two speeches from the Kenyan president on Monday, one for Kenya and the other for Africa.
On Sunday at the Blue Zone in the Green City of Sharm El Sheikh, the 27th Conference of Parties on Climate Change was formally inaugurated by the COP 27 President and Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shoukry.
The Summit will take place at a time when energy and food crises, as well as weather extremes, are plaguing Africa. As a result of climate change, Kenya is currently experiencing its worst drought in 40 years.
President Ruto will promote the implementation of the Paris Agreement, which was ratified by 196 Parties at COP21 in 2015 and commits to combating climate change and preparing for its repercussions, according to a statement released by State House on Sunday evening.
In the meantime, following his arrival in Egypt on Sunday, President Ruto also had a meeting with his Rwandan counterpart, Paul Kagame.
