According to changes made by the new Twitter CEO Elon Musk, users of accounts with verification badges will now have to pay $8 (Ksh 971.6) every month.
According to Musk, the price has been adjusted for purchasing power parity by country.
Musk continued by listing the priorities that, following the payment of the monthly fee, will be given to the verified accounts.
Tweeps who have vehemently criticized the proposed charges have resisted this action.
Musk responded to the controversy by saying, “To all complainers, please continue moaning, but it will cost $8.”
Ahmednasir Abdullahi, a Kenyan attorney, is one of many opposed to the idea and has stated he would rather lose his blue badge than pay a membership fee for it.
Lawyer Miguna Miguna has also voiced opposition to the move, calling it a case of greed that would cause a huge exodus from the social media site.
Concerns about how the modifications will prevent impersonation on the social media site have also been voiced.
