Following the deaths of their 2 children who drowned in Lake Victoria on Tuesday night, a family from Mageta Island in Bondo, Siaya County, is in grief.
According to reports, Dedan Omondi Damai and Wycliffe Onyango Damai were on an usual fishing trip near Sirongo beach when heavy winds caused their boat to capsize.
The two brothers had finished casting their nets, according to Julius Odembo, the chairman of Sika Beach, and were heading back to the lake’s edge when they tragically perished.
Odembo said Radio Ramogi that when other fisherman realized the brothers’ boat had capsized, they made vain attempts to save them.
He also pleaded with the local fisherman to bring back the pair’s bodies if they came across them so that the brothers may be laid to rest.
In order to help locate the two men’s bodies, he pleaded with the Siaya County authorities to provide assistance.
