John Waluke, a legislator from Sirisia, might pass up the lucrative opportunity to serve as a commissioner for the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).
Opiyo Wandayi, the minority leader, left Waluke’s name off the list of candidates for the commission from the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party, according to a letter obtained by Citizen Digital.
The coalition had promised Waluke the job, and his Jubilee Party has already given him a nomination certificate. Waluke is currently detained and battling to be released on bail.
ODM, Jubilee, and Wiper are vying for the few open leadership slots, which is generating discord in the Raila Odinga-led alliance.
Wandayi suggests that the Likoni MP Mishi Mboko (ODM) and her Mavoko Counterpart Makau Mutua (Wiper) join the commission in a letter to Speaker Moses Wetangula.
“I gratefully acknowledge receiving your letter, referred to as SNA/CORR/2022(124), dated October 13, 2022. In the letter, Wandayi said, “I am happy to confirm the Minority Party Nominees from the National Assembly to the Parliamentary Service Commission.
It will now be up to the members to choose who will represent them from the Minority in the National Assembly because Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has also written to Speaker Wetangula recommending Waluke as a commissioner.
In the letter, Kioni stated that the Jubilee Party wanted to recommend Hon. John Waluke Koyi, Member of Parliament for Sirisia Constituency, to be a Commissioner in the Parliamentary Service Commission.
Oburu Odinga, a senator from Siaya and Raila’s brother, and Okongo Omogeni, a senator from Nyamira, are squabbling about who will be the lone senator to represent the minority in the commission.
However, sources claim that because of the recent adjustments, the coalition has suggested Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo, the Senate Minority Whip, for a position on the panel.
If Dullo is appointed to the panel, the House leadership will undergo a change.
Additionally, according to sources, Omogeni will take Ole Kina’s seat as deputy minority whip while Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina might succeed Dullo as the minority whip.
However, the Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau and Nyali MP Mohamed Ali have been nominated from the National Assembly, and Nyandarua’s John Kinyua has been drawn from the Senate, making things easy for the ruling Kenya Kwanza alliance.
