Top In a weird instance of apparent mistaken identity, Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif was allegedly shot dead by Kenyan police on Sunday night.
Following a police pursuit, Arshad Sharif was allegedly shot in the head along the Nairobi-Magadi route.
Sharif’s wife, Javeria Siddiqui, confirmed the death on Twitter, writing, “I lost friend, spouse, and my favorite journalist Arshad Sharif today, as per police, he was shot in Kenya.”
“Please respect our privacy and do not broadcast our family photos, personal data, or his last photographs from the hospital under the guise of breaking news. Keep us in your prayers.”
Kenyan investigative journalist John Allan Namu verified the murder and denied assertions that Sharif was the reason he traveled to Kenya to work on an investigative documentary, as reported in various online publications.
Arshad is alleged to be working on a corruption case named “Behind Closed Doors” for persons in positions of power and those who facilitate it.
Allan Namu noted that while he was interviewed in the story, he never met or worked with Arshad.
