Umoja Summit Party presidential aspirant Walter Mong’are now says that he is still on the campaign trail despite being disqualified by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Monday.
Mong’are who maintains that he is still mobilizing voters, says he was unfairly ousted in the race and his dream to ascend to the top. office is still alive.
“I saw from a research that came out today that a big chunk of the Kenyan voters is still undecided, so this is a great opportunity for me to tell them that don’t despair be ready to go to the ballot,” Mong’are said in an interview with KTN News on Wednesday.
“There is hope, there is a freshness that we need to give ourselves so am still campaigning and I have no reason not to campaign, am hopeful.”
Despite being previously cleared by the IEBC ahead of the August polls, on Monday, the commission’s chair, Wafula Chebukati revoked his nomination, citing a lack of academic qualifications and his failure to present himself to clarify the issue.
The former Director of youth programs now argues that he remains qualified to contest for the presidency, saying that he did not get an official disqualification.
“We still hold the clearance certificate because we don’t have any official communication of revocation from IEBC,” he noted.
“I am knowledgeable, educated, have gone to school, there are things that can be left to interpretations and others to an argument. I have been cleared and was the first person to be cleared and I believe the honours is to the IEBC to prove otherwise and we will know from the interest of time the truth.”
Mong’are remained optimistic that there are Kenyans looking for a third option, despite the fact that the race has been labeled a two-horse race between Deputy President William Ruto and Azimio’s Raila Odinga.
He referred to Wednesday’s poll survey by InfoTrak that revealed over 4 million Kenyans were undecided as he dismissed a two-horse race narrative.
“I saw from research that came out today that a big chunk of the Kenyan voters is still undecided. I think am proud to be human, I think am proud to be a man and I will not call myself an animal, while the rest are horses, I think I will need to ride one of the horses to State House,” he stated.
