A former Kiambu County Assembly member who falsified an academic document was sentenced to four years in prison.
Robert Kibe Githongo, the former MCA for Kiamwangi Ward, appeared before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court on Monday. He was accused of fabricating a KCSE certificate and passing it off as one granted by the Kenya National Examination Council.
Githongo was also accused of presenting a forged KCSE certificate as an official one from the exam board on December 29, 2014, at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
Kibe was found guilty of two offenses: creating a fake document in violation of section 347(a) of the Penal Code as read with section 349 and uttering a false document in violation of section 353 of the Penal Code.
The former MCA was given a four-year prison term or a fine of Ksh. 500,000 – Ksh. 250,000 for each offense by Senior Principal Magistrate Peter Ooko.
However, Mr. Githongo was found not guilty on three counts because there was insufficient proof that he had lied to the Ethics & Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), provided false information to the anti-graft organization, and made a false statutory declaration.
