A third suspect who is reportedly involved in the horrific murder of businessman George Mwangi Kamau from Rwanda has been taken into custody.
John Muikiriria Mwangi, who is alleged to have gone missing a day before the victim was slain, was captured by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at Karinga in the Gatundu South sub county.
The major suspect and the deceased’s wife, Gladys Njeri Mwangi alias Chania, recruited the second suspect, Morris Mbugua, on the same day that he inexplicably disappeared, according to DCI.
Mwangi, a four-year employee at the facility, vanished when Chania dispatched him to an M-pesa shop to deposit some cash.
The primary suspect Gladys Njeri Mwangi Alias Chania hired Morris Kamau Mbugua on October 8, 2022, a day before the deceased’s death and abduction, and John Muikiriria Mwangi went missing on the same day. “The seasoned detectives found it was too much of a coincidence,” stated DCI on Twitter.
On August 9th, Chania ran unsuccessfully for the position of Kiambu County Woman Representative. On October 14th, 2022, Chania was taken into custody.
On September 13, 2022, the victim, who had just returned to Kenya from Kigali, is believed to have been assassinated due to his supposed association with Lucy Muthoni, a secretary at a nearby school.
On October 12, a few hours before he was purportedly scheduled to take a flight back to Kigali, the 58-year-body old’s was discovered abandoned in Kieni Forest, Kiambu County.
The body was found buried beneath a stack of containers, wrapped in a polythene bag.
The DCI claims that Chania went to the Mwea Police Post in Gatundu North on October 11, 2022, and reported her husband missing.
Detectives who visited the deceased’s home in Mang’u—the alleged murder scene—recovered several of the weapons thought to have been used to brutally kill the engineer.
The exhibits that were found in the property included pieces of blood-stained metal rods, blood-soaked bed linens, damaged clothing, and stained drapes, according to DCI.
The murder weapons were reportedly found in the main bedroom, according to the DCI.
On November 2, 2022, Chania and Mbugua were charged in Kiambu law courts. The same court will hold Mwangi’s arraignment today, Monday, November 7.
