President William Ruto named Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi as the country’s Prime Cabinet Secretary on Tuesday (CS).

President Ruto stated that the former vice president will hold Kenya’s third most senior government position while unveiling his Cabinet at State House in Nairobi.

“I have appointed Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi to that office; that office is probably the most senior office after the president and deputy president, and I have set out functions for that office,” President Ruto said in his address.

Mudavadi, President Ruto emphasized, will be a key cog in his administration and will be tasked with five major responsibilities if he is elected.

“He will assist the President and the DP in the coordination and supervision of government ministries and state departments, in liaison with the ministry responsible for interior and national coordination, and oversee the implementation of national government policies, programs, and projects,” President Ruto explained.

“In consultation with and for transmission to the party coalition leadership in both the Senate and the National Assembly, he will chair and coordinate national government legislative agendas across all ministries and state departments.”

Mudavadi will also facilitate inter-ministerial coordination of cross-functional initiatives and programs, as well as overseeing the technical monitoring and evaluation of all government policies, programs, and projects.

“He will also perform any other functions that I may delegate to him,” President Ruto said.
