Three people were killed and six others were seriously injured in a road accident on the Sagana-Kagio road in Kirinyaga County on Friday.

Kirinyaga Police Commander Mathew Mang’ira confirmed the accident, saying it involved a boda boda and a matatu.

According to the police chief, the matatu was ferrying 14 passengers from Kagio to Sagana when a boda boda rider carrying two pillion passengers reportedly emerged and joined the road on the opposite lane, resulting in a head-on collision.

Residents of Kahiro, led by Faith Wambui, said the three young men on the boda boda were shouting and speeding.

“We believe they were inebriated, and they are not from this area… “We had a difficult time getting one of the passengers off the matatu,” Wambui explained.

According to police commander Mang’ira, the six injured passengers were rushed to Sagana sub-county hospital with serious injuries and are being treated.

The deceased’s bodies have since been removed from the scene and transported to Murang’a County Hospital.

Both the motorcycle and the matatu were severely damaged in the accident and were towed to the Sagana Police Station for further investigation.
