One person was killed on the spot after a horrific tractor accident in Shinyalu village, Lumakanda location, Lugari Sub County.
According to Ms. Brenda Shivonekha, who witnessed the accident, the tractor was passing on a village path near her house on its way to collect construction materials when the driver lost control and began reversing towards her valley-side home.
The driver, Kennedy Rubia, jumped from the tractor as it approached her house and fell in the valley as the tractor rolled towards him and crushed him.
Residents led by Mr. Benson Kisomek worked together to remove the body that had become trapped under the tractor.
“I am deeply saddened by my colleague’s death. “When I heard about the accident, I rushed here, hoping to save him alive, but he is no longer alive,” Mr. Kisomek said.
Lumakanda location chief Celestine Asige confirmed the incident, calling it “unfortunate,” and urging drivers to check and ensure their vehicles are in good condition before leaving their bosses or compounds. Preliminary investigations revealed that the tractor had mechanical issues prior to the accident.
Officers from Lumakanda police station removed the body from the scene and transported it to Kimbilio mortuary in neighboring Uasin Gishu County.
