Former Roots Party deputy presidential candidate Justina Wamae has resigned from the party, which she officially announced on Thursday.
Justina announced her resignation from the Prof. George Wajackoyah-led party in a letter to the party’s Secretary General.
She stated that her role as Wajackoyah’s running mate ended when Kenya Kwanza frontman William Ruto was declared the State House race winner and his victory was upheld by the Supreme Court.
“My role as Roots Party of Kenya Presidential Running Mate lapsed with the declaration of H.E President William Ruto and H E Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on August 16, 2022 and subsequent upholding of the election by the Supreme Court of Kenya on September 5, 2022,” she wrote in a letter dated September 21, 2022.
“In this regard, I resign as a member of the Kenyan Roots Party. Please comply with the ORPP’s requirements for the prompt removal of my name from your party register.”
In a subsequent letter dated September 22, 2022, Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu granted Justina’s request, notifying her that her name had been removed from the Roots Party books.
“As of 22nd September 2022, Justina Wamae is not a member of any registered political party,” Ms. Nderitu stated.
Following her resignation, Justina took to social media to chastise the party, claiming that the Wajackoyah-led political outfit would no longer receive funding because it did not win any seats in the August General Election.
“A party is not eligible for funding if its members are not elected. Aside from the project, the hostility was that Mizizi would benefit from the fund. I voluntarily resigned, so they can now eat hot air. Keep an eye on this “She posted on Twitter.
