Homa Bay: Three Dead, 14 Injured After PSV Matatu Rolls

A PSV matatu plying the Homa Bay–Rongo route crashed on Sunday morning, August 21, at the infamous Arujo Bridge in Homa Bay County.

Three passengers died in the accident, while 14 others were left nursing serious injuries, and had to be rushed to the nearby hospital.

According to witnesses, the accident occurred at around 9:30am.

“The matatu was trying to avoid hitting an oncoming vehicle when it lost control and rolled several times off the road,” a witness said.

Speaking about the accident, Homa Bay County police commander Samson Ole Kinne, said: “Two passengers who were inside the matatu died on the spot, while another one died while being rushed to the hospital.”

According to one of the witnesses, three vehicles; a trailer and two matatus were approaching the dangerous bridge at the same time – when the accident happened.

Police said that the injured were rushed to the Homa Bay county Referral hospital.
