President-elect William Ruto has submitted a three-member list of representatives to the transition committee that is tasked with ensuring the smooth handover of power from President Uhuru Kenyatta to his successor.
The three are National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss, and United Democartic Alliance (UDA) party Secretary General Veronica Maina.
The trio will now represent the President-elect and champion his interests in the 20-member committee ahead of the swearing-in if no petition against his election is filed at the Supreme Court by next week.
The outgoing government started preparations to usher in the next government in the days leading upto the declaration of results and winner of the August 9 presidential poll by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Joseph Kinyua, the Head of Public Service chaired the inaugural meeting of the Assumption of Office of the President committee on August 13 saying they are ready to facilitate a smooth transition.
Below are the functions and powers of the Assumption of the Office of the President Committee:
(a) Facilitate the handing over process by the outgoing President to the President-elect
(b) Organise for the security of the President-elect
(c) Organise for the necessary facilities and personnel for the President-elect
(d) Co-ordinate the briefings of the President-elect by relevant public officers
(e) Facilitate communication between the outgoing President and the President-elect
(f) Prepare the programme and organise for the swearing-in ceremony
(g) Carry out any other activity necessary for the performance of its functions under this Act and perform any other function assigned to it under any other written law.
