Seven people died while seven others were injured in a road accident in Longelded area, Samburu East, on the Isiolo-Moyale highway on Wednesday.
Reports indicate that the victims were heading to Leereta to celebrate the election win of an MCA candidate in the area, when the vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road and rolled near Kalama Community Conservancy.
All the deceased persons died on the spot but the exact number of passengers that the vehicle was ferrying at the time has yet to be established.
Confirming the incident, Samburu East Deputy Police Commander Juma Boy told journalists that survivors had been ferried to a local hospital for treatment while the vehicle’s wreckage was towed to a nearby police station.
Investigations into the incident are currently ongoing.
“We have launched probe into the matter to establish what transpired before the accident,” said the deputy police commander as quoted by the Nation.
