A middle-aged man has been sentenced to 45 years in prison after pleading guilty to defiling a minor aged 2 years.

The court heard that Erasus Kariuki,39, had contributed Ksh.100 at a church located in Zimmerman, Nairobi before committing the crime.

In mitigation, the suspect blamed the devil for pushing him to commit the crime.

He was charged with defiling the minor inside the church grounds on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at around 3 o’clock after giving Ksh100 during a church fundraiser.

The prosecution argued that they were unprepared with the facts after the defendant pleaded guilty to the crime because the child was receiving care at Komarock Modern Hospital when she was admitted for corrective surgery.

The child was playing outside when the suspect entered as one of the participants in the church’s miniature harambee, according to the police.

“In some few minutes, the mother of the child heard her daughter crying only to be directed by her cry and found out the suspect who is unknown to them holding her child on his thigh penetrating her just outside,” arresting officers said.

Before being saved by some churchgoers who took him to the police station past Zimmerman, the onlookers who responded to the woman’s distress call are said to have beaten the suspect.

After the incident, the child was taken immediately to the MSF clinic and sent for additional care to Komarock Modern Hospital.
